UV Glass

Discover Miron® glass

UV glass, designed for the light that matters

Looking for UV glass? Miron® is a deep violet glass, designed to selectively filter light, reducing transmission across specific wavelengths while allowing selected wavelengths to pass through.

01

Sunlight is essential to life

It supports growth, balance and the natural processes that shape the ingredients you work with.

02

Over time, light also drives change

That isn't an exception. It's how nature works, in the field and on the shelf.

03

What sustains life can also transform it

How much a product changes depends on time, light and the conditions it's kept in.

How light behaves

Not all light is the same

Light is made up of different wavelengths, each carrying a different amount of energy. UV is one part of it, and visible light can also drive change in sensitive natural ingredients over time, affecting colour, aroma, flavour and texture.

Different glass compositions create different light environments. Miron® glass is designed around selective light filtration, reducing transmission across specific regions of the spectrum while allowing selected wavelengths to pass through.

UV

200–400 nm

Reduces transmission across specific wavelengths

Visible light

400–700 nm

Excess visible light can affect natural ingredients

Infrared

700–800+ nm

Allows selected wavelengths to pass through

Does glass block UV light?

It depends on the glass. Its colour and composition change which parts of the light spectrum reach your product.

Clear glass

Lets most light through, including part of the UV range. Great for showing off a product, but it does little to filter light.

Amber glass

Filters light more broadly across part of the spectrum. It's the traditional choice for pharmacy bottles and many essential oils.

Miron® violet glass

Filters more selectively, reducing transmission across specific wavelengths while allowing selected wavelengths to pass through.

Why it matters

For natural ingredients, light is never neutral

Light exposure is one of the things that affects how long a formulation keeps its intended character. The effect depends on the formulation, the wavelengths absorbed and how the product is stored.

Oxygen, temperature, moisture and handling matter too, which is why a well-matched closure is part of the pack.

Protection you can sense

The qualities brands most often want to keep. Results vary by formulation and storage conditions.

Sight

Colour

Natural pigments and colour that stay closer to how you made them.

Smell

Aroma

Essential oils and botanicals that keep more of their scent.

Taste

Flavour

Oils, honeys, teas and spices that stay fresher for longer.

Touch

Texture

Balms, creams and oils that keep a consistent feel.

What works best with Miron® glass?

It's most relevant for products that are stored for a while before and during use.

Usually a good fit

  • Oil-based products: essential oils, serums, facial and culinary oils
  • Dry goods: herbs, spices, teas, powders and supplements
  • Balms, butters and stable creams
  • Products used over weeks or months

Usually less relevant

  • Products used up within days
  • Fresh products that need refrigeration
  • Formulations where light isn't a meaningful factor

Questions & insights

All Miron® FAQs →
Does glass block UV rays?

Not completely. Ordinary clear glass lets through most light, including part of the UV range. Coloured glass, such as amber or violet, changes how much light gets through and which wavelengths.

Is Miron® glass UV glass?

UV glass is a common search term rather than a type of glass. Miron® is a specific deep violet glass, designed to selectively filter light: it reduces transmission across specific wavelengths while allowing selected wavelengths, not all light, to pass through.

How does it differ from clear or amber glass?

Clear glass passes most light. Amber glass filters light more broadly across part of the spectrum. Miron® glass filters more selectively, creating a different light environment.

Which products benefit most?

Products stored for weeks or months: oils, serums, herbs, spices, honey, teas, powders, supplements, balms and stable creams.

Does it stop change entirely?

No. Products still change over time. Miron® glass helps manage light exposure, which is one of several factors alongside oxygen, temperature, moisture, formulation and handling.

How much longer will my product last?

That depends on your product and how it's stored, so we can't give a single figure. Testing with your own product is the most reliable way to find out.
